Christian Wood, Houston Rockets, NBA Trade Rumors

The Houston Rockets recently pulled off the longest winning streak in the NBA but it ended after seven games. After losing 15 consecutive games, they have bounced back to win seven straight, which is an NBA record following a losing streak of that length.

The team has gotten going on the offensive end, as they are moving the ball and getting good shots. Contributions are coming from unheralded players such as Garrison Mathews and Jae’Sean Tate, who are helping pick up the slack for the injured Jalen Green.

Houston has also gotten some strong performances during this stretch from Christian Wood as well. Wood isn’t scoring as much as he did last season, as his shooting percentage dropped to 45.8 percent from 51.4 last season. His 3-point shooting and free throw percentage are also down 37.4 and 63.1 to 34.4 and 57.9.

Despite the drop in scoring, Wood has impacted the game in other ways. He is playing fewer minutes, yet has seen his rebounding and assist numbers increase. The UNLV product is a lot more than just a scorer, which is why he would net the Rockets such a strong return in a trade package should he be made available.

In a recent episode of The Lowe Post, the possibility of Christian Wood being traded was brought up. While the Houston Rockets aren’t actively looking to trade him, they could be open to making a deal for him should the right one be presented to them.

“The sense that I get is by no means are the Rockets looking to move him. Certainly there’s potential for him to be in his prime when the young guys grow up, and maybe the Rockets are ready to be competitive again. But they’re willing to listen and I think that you know, aside from Jalen Green, the Rockets should be willing to listen to every single guy on the roster.”

Wood is only 26-years old, but given the youthfulness of the rest of the roster, it makes sense that Houston would at least be open to a potential deal involving him. However, Houston could take the opposite approach with it.

Given his age, Christian Wood can be the veteran presence for a young core when they are ready to compete. If things pan out, Wood should still be in his prime when the Rockets are ascending.

He will be more expensive to keep, as he will undoubtedly earn a larger contract once this one is up, but he has proven that he is an excellent contributor and could be worth keeping long-term as the Houston Rockets move forward with their rebuild.
