It was a highly impressive start to the 2021-22 NBA season for the Washington Wizards. The 9-3 recorded the team posted through 12 games led the Eastern Conference early in the season but the team has since 6-12 and has slide down to seventh in the standings.

The Detroit Pistons are officially moving in an entirely new direction and this one might be a good one. After landing the top pick in this year’s NBA Draft, Detroit has a foundation to build and they can continue to do so through the draft. This is what could happen with the Washington Wizards at some point moving forward.

Detroit hit the lottery and got the chance to land Cade Cunningham in the 2021 NBA Draft. He was the clear top prospect and will now join a strong, young core. This includes all-rookie selections Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart.

The Pistons have been one of the worst teams in the league for years now and that could change if they hit on a couple more moves. Jerami Grant remains the biggest trade piece, especially after the season that he was able to put up this season. Grant has plenty of value and will be valuable for any team.

The Wizards could be that team. Washington was a postseason team last year but was not taken seriously as championship contenders. The duo of Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook got hot at the end of the year and led Washington back to the postseason.

Westbrook was quickly sent to Los Angeles this offseason and it is unknown what the situation with Beal looks like. The Wizards got some pieces back for Westbrook and could flip them if Grant is a better fit.

This would be an intriguing trade between two rebuilding teams. Here is what the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards could put together at some point moving forward.
