Would Warriors Part With James Wiseman In Trade Deadline Move?

James Wiseman, Golden State Warriors, NBA Trade Rumors

The Golden State Warriors have cemented themselves as one of the best teams in the NBA. They have a record of 21-4 and sit atop the Western Conference standings with the best record in the league.

Stephen Curry is playing at an MVP level and Draymond Green is locked in looking to prove he is still one of the best defensive players in the NBA. They are receiving excellent contributions from complementary players such as Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole as well. The scariest part about the Warriors’ success thus far is that they could be even better in the coming weeks.

Golden State will be getting some reinforcements in the near future. Klay Thompson is on track to make his much-anticipated return to the court after being away for more than two years recovering from ACL and Achilles injuries. He will be back on the court within the next two weeks.

Joining him on the comeback trail is James Wiseman. Wiseman was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft but injured his knee last season. He has been recovering from that and the team is looking forward to his return.

Some people believe that they want him to return so that he can prove he is healthy and the Warriors can turn around and flip him for an established player to keep their championship window open. There were a ton of rumors swirling about potential blockbuster deals involving the Warriors during the offseason, but that may no longer be the case.

Wiseman has star potential, which is why he was selected No. 2 overall. That is as big of a reason as any that Golden State has no interest in including him in a trade.

“Among many reasons the Warriors have no interest in trading Wiseman is that the organization believes he will be a star. Golden State believes that Wiseman possesses a unique combination of size and skill. Earlier this week, video was shared of the seven-footer doing ballhandling drills. Wiseman shrugged it off by saying “I’ve always been able to handle the ball. It’s just the fact that you all saw it.”

The Golden State Warriors have a delicate balancing act to do. Very rarely are established teams such as the Warriors lucky enough to land near the top of a draft to land such a high-upside prospect. They want to give the current core as good of a chance to win another title as possible but have to be thinking of the future of the franchise as well once those players move on.

James Wiseman is key to the team’s future and they are hoping that he can have a positive impact immediately as well. While it may not be conducive to contending now, as Wiseman did struggle at times as a rookie, the organization sounds committed to developing him while battling for a championship at the same time.
