Currently 13-11, the Philadelphia 76ers are still a contending team in the NBA, but they need to figure out what the future holds for Ben Simmons. He has not played since the Sixers lost to the Hawks in the playoffs last season and not wanting to play for the 76ers again, it seems like the team is going to have to try and trade him ahead of the deadline this season.

In fact, the Philadelphia 76ers need to trade Ben Simmons if they want to have any chance of winning a title! Injuries and health protocols have limited this team’s success early on this season, but Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris cannot compete against the likes of the Nets, Bucks and Heat by themselves.

Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey and Shake Milton have stepped up in the backcourt and have filled them minutes Simmons has left behind, but none of these three players have the ability to be the “third star” the 76ers need.

They are all definitely key role players and secondary talents, but if Philadelphia is going to try and make a run to at least the Eastern Conference Finals this season, they need another All-Star-level talent to pair with Harris and Embiid.

With the recent drama in Portland surrounding their front-office and Damian Lillard, the 76ers could potentially wait to see how this situation plays out before making any big moves, but the Portland Trail Blazers have not been the only team interested in Ben Simmons.

The San Antonio Spurs were one of a few teams to inquire about Simmons ahead of the start of the 2021-22 season and their interest could still be there seeing as the Spurs need a star-like player on their team if they are to try and be successful moving forward.

Dejounte Murray, Derrick White and Keldon Johnson have been the young leaders of this team, but the Spurs have no identity and they are in danger of missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season, something that is unheard of in San Antonio lore.

Making a big move to target an All-Star ahead of the trade deadline could be something the Spurs do, hence why they could look to pursue Ben Simmons.

Even though they do not have an All-Star to give up to Philadelphia in return, can the Spurs make a trade with the 76ers work? Let’s take a look at a trade proposal put together by Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes that sends Simmons to San Antonio.
