Starting the year 11-11 has put the Minnesota Timberwolves in a great position to contend for a playoff spot this NBA season, but this team still has a lot of basketball yet to be played and holes on their roster that still need to be filled.

Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell have made up one of the NBA’s better scoring trios in the league, as these three are combining to score 65.0 points per game on average, but the rest of this team’s depth is still in question.

Only one other player on the Timberwolves’ roster is averaging double-digit scoring numbers and their bench has been very underwhelming. Minnesota ranks 22nd in bench points per game this season and they are really lacking depth in their frontcourt.

Jarred Vanderbilt and Jaden McDaniels are two forwards the Timberwolves are high on moving forward, but they are just 22 and 21-years-old, respectively, and still growing as young talents in this league.

They do have Taurean Prince as a veteran in this frontcourt and on the wing, but other than Naz Reid, the Timberwolves have nobody for depth behind Karl-Anthony Towns. Minnesota’s All-Star big man has not missed a game this season, but he did recently suffer a hard fall against the Wizards on Wednesday night and could wind up missing some games due to a back injury.

This is not a long-term concern for Minnesota, but their lack of frontcourt productivity is definitely something that needs to be addressed and this team does need some more overall bench depth if they are to have a shot at making the playoffs.

While he was just acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers this past offseason via trade, Larry Nance Jr. could fit in quite well with the Minnesota Timberwolves because of his ability to run in transition and the athleticism he possesses at the power-forward position.

In 22 games with Portland this season, Nance is averaging 6.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and is shooting 53.8% from the floor. Not only could he provide some more depth to this frontcourt, but Larry Nance Jr. has made a name for himself by being a high-flying player that can fit in at numerous positions on the floor, especially since he has shot 33.3% from deep for his career.

Given that his minutes and productivity are beginning to increase in Portland, it is hard to imagine that they would look to trade Nance, but let’s take a look at a trade scenario put together by ESPN’s Tim Bontemps that results in the Minnesota Timberwolves acquiring Larry Nance Jr.
