The Dallas Mavericks are expected to be active ahead of the NBA trade deadline to try to improve their roster around superstar Luka Doncic. Mark Cuban is no stranger to making splash acquisitions and this year will be no different. One intriguing name that has been mentioned a bit lately has been Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant.

Grant would certainly be an interesting trade target for the Mavericks. He would not provide the type of ball-handler that Dallas has been searching for, but he would provide a nice spark in the front-court alongside Kristaps Porzingis.

His situation with the Pistons has changed dramatically this season. Due to the presence of No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham, Grant’s role has diminished. That could lead him to being open to a potential trade.

In a recent article shared by The Smoking Cuban, Grant was named a potential trade target for the Mavericks. Here is the reasoning they gave.

“The Dallas Mavericks should be calling the Pistons and asking about Jerami Grant because he could be the difference in winning a playoff series. Grant has the size and athleticism to guard Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, and other small forwards that can handle the ball and make plays. He would be a fantastic addition for any contending team, and Grant could be available before the Feb. 10 deadline.”

So far this season in 19.5 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He has shot just 40.4 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from the three-point line, but he is a more capable shooter than those numbers show. Grant has also chipped in with 1.2 steals and a block per game.

Those numbers show why the Mavericks should have interest in the Pistons’ forward. Grant is the type of player that every true championship contender needs to have.

Dallas would not be asking Grant to come in and average the 22.3 points per game that he averaged last season. He would be asked to be a consistent 15-point scorer and provide defense. Those are things that Grant could easily do for the Mavericks.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors attached to the Mavericks as the trade deadline continues to draw closer. Doncic and Porzingis need more help, and Jerami Grant could be a nice target to provide just that.
