How Hawks Could Trade For 76ers Star Ben Simmons

The Philadelphia 76ers have done a good job of weathering the storm this season without NBA All-Star Ben Simmons. However, other players missing time whether it be for injury or health and safety protocols have been tougher to overcome.

The 76ers started the season 8-2 and in first place in the Eastern Conference. Tyrese Maxey has done a wonderful job taking over as the starting point guard. However, they are only 3-8 since then, as they were unable to overcome multiple players being sidelined.

Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Matisse Thybulle all missed time because of the health and safety protocols. Danny Green has battled injuries. Maxey and Georges Niang are the only two players on the team to have appeared in every game thus far this season.

With their slip in the standings, could they get a little more aggressive in making a trade involving Simmons? His value is at an all-time low and it is anyone’s guess when he will make a return to the team, so the organization has to focus on the players that are there putting the work in.

Daryl Morey has been adamant about what the team wants in return, and no one has come close to that offer yet. If they eventually lower their price, could the Atlanta Hawks be a potential trade partner?

How could the Atlanta Hawks land Ben Simmons? In this deal, Atlanta trades Cam Reddish, Danilo Gallinari and Onyeka Okongwu to Philadelphia in exchange for Simmons. It was a deal proposed over at HoopsHabit and it would be hard to imagine the 76ers lowering their price this much.

Philadelphia has grand dreams of landing a player such as Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal. Players of that caliber may be unattainable, but they are not even landing a bonafide All-Star in this package, let alone a borderline one.

Reddish has the prototypical two-way size and would be the headliner in this deal as someone the 76ers would hope develops into an All-Star caliber player he has the potential to be. Gallinari provides the team with another scoring option and shooter in the frontcourt. Onyeka is recovering from offseason surgery and would slide in behind Embiid as another high-upside youngster.

While this package may look underwhelming, it does strengthen the Philadelphia 76ers package to land a player in the same class as Lillard and Beal. Reddish and Onyeka could be included with other assets already on the roster to create a strong package to offer to a team whose star player may want a change of scenery.
