Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?

If the New York Knicks do not have plans to regularly involve Kemba Walker in their rotation, it’s time to move on from him using a trade.

There aren’t many teams who could justify taking a chance on Walker after yet another failed tenure. There were many rumors about Walker’s knee being “shot” when Danny Ainge was shopping him before the deal that moved him from the Boston Celtics to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Knicks would land a reserve guard in Trey Burke who can put it on the floor and get to some shot creation in a pinch. It’s not a major difference-maker but re-balances the roster.

There’s no need for concern if the Knicks aren’t giving Trey Burke minutes. However, it’s different when it’s someone of Kemba Walker’s stature.

The Knicks would be paying Burke roughly half the salary of Walker for the rest of this season and the 2022-23 campaign. Attaching assets to move Walker wouldn’t be great to have to do, but if it’s needed to get it done, they should consider doing so.
