Would this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
For the Dallas Mavericks, the team has received intriguing production from Jalen Brunson as a leader of the bench unit and as a backcourt partner with Luka Doncic. However, there’s only so many minutes one player can be on the floor throughout the course of a game.
The idea behind acquiring Kemba Walker for the Mavericks would be to take a chance on a guard who can ideally take charge of the bench group — enabling Brunson to regularly start alongside Doncic.
Tyrell Terry waiting until training camp to decide he doesn’t want to play basketball again hurt the Mavericks’ depth at point guard. Trey Burke has shown at times to be able to step in and bring some impact, but he’s not a consistent enough option in a regular capacity.
The defensive shortcomings that come with Walker have always been there throughout his NBA career but have worsened in recent seasons as his knee concerns grow.

The Mavericks would need to determine if the risk associated would be worthwhile. Given their less than stellar defensive personnel, it would genuinely need to be pondered.
