3 Trade Targets For San Antonio Spurs — Pass Or Pursue?

San Antonio Spurs, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

For the first-time in their franchise’s history, the Spurs missed the playoffs in consecutive years last season and this year, they may wind up extending this streak to three straight years. San Antonio is one of the youngest teams in the NBA right now and while they have a promising looking young core, this team really has no identity moving forward.

San Antonio has always been known to be a great defensive team under Gregg Popovich, but they are a very average team defensively this season, ranking just 17th in the league in defensive rating. Along with ranking 24th in offensive rating, there is not one thing that this team is really good at.

Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker IV seem like the young core for this franchise moving forward, but again, this team has no identity.

None of these four guys are All-Star-level talents and while they may be getting better collectively, this team is nowhere close to being able to contend in the postseason.

Currently at 4-12, the Spurs are only in front of the Pelicans and Rockets in the Western Conference standings and it is a long-shot at this point that they will make the play-in tournament.

Likely picking in the lottery of the draft once again in 2022, the Spurs have a good thing going for themselves in terms of future success, but could look for ways to add more future value at the trade deadline this season.

Thaddeus Young is a key veteran player on their roster that they will look to trade away seeing as he is in the final year of his contract, but there are really no “untouchables” on this roster right now.

Everyone is available for the right price, which is why the Spurs could look to target some big names in a trade in order to add the All-Star value they are missing.
