Would this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

The goal for the Philadelphia 76ers is to win as soon as possible with Joel Embiid being in his prime. Moving an All-Star talent like Ben Simmons is not something the team wants to have to do, but in the event of a deal, the return must be headlined by a real difference-maker.

So far, the 76ers have sought lofty asking prices in trade talks involving Simmons. For example, instead of Jerami Grant in a potential deal from the Detroit Pistons, Dary Morey wants Cade Cunningham, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

In a trade that involves Ben Simmons, the best player headlining the return being Eric Gordon is going to be a ‘no-go’ for the 76ers. It’s as simple as that.

Of course, adding Gordon into the mix would be a helpful addition since he has more dynamic elements to his skill-set than Danny Green while still bringing effective defensive impact. However, he’s not the kind of player that forms a dynamic duo with Embiid.

Now, there’s a difference between what the 76ers would do versus what they should do. Regardless, better offers can likely be had elsewhere. However, if leverage worsens for Philadelphia down the line, this wouldn’t be a terrible idea.
