The Sacramento Kings made the first big move of the 2021-22 NBA season, firing head coach Luke Walton. Walton had an uninspiring run as the team’s head coach, compiling a record of 68-93.
The decision to move on from Walton isn’t a shocking one. He was the one coach that was truly on the hot seat coming into the season. The Kings have missed the playoffs 15 straight years and general manager Monte McNair, despite having a good relationship with Walton, ultimately wasn’t the person that hired him.
After starting this season 6-11, the move was made. Alvin Gentry will be taking over on an interim basis, likely for the remainder of the season in an audition for the full-time job.
The coaching staff shake-up likely isn’t the only thing that will change for the Kings this season. They need a roster overhaul as well with a backcourt heavy team lacking on the wing and in the frontcourt.

No matter what direction the team takes, expect some deals to be made. Here are three Kings for teams to watch for on the trade market after the coaching change.
