Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?

The Sacramento Kings have been one of the few teams that have been pursuing Ben Simmons for months and the answer they keep receiving from Daryl Morey is “no.” This may finally be their chance to acquire Simmons for the price that they want, especially if Ingram requests out of New Orleans.

Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III are two players who the Kings do like and have been high on as younger talents, but their futures do not seem to be in Sacramento.

This past offseason, the Kings had a deal in place with the Lakers to send Buddy Hield to Los Angeles for a trade package that included the likes of Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell, but trade talks ultimately fell through after the Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook instead.

Knowing that he was on the verge of being traded and the team no longer wanting him in Sacramento, there is kind of an awkward relationship between Hield and management right now.

He knows he is going to be traded in the foreseeable future, which is why the Sacramento Kings will likely look to get a deal done ahead of the trade deadline for the sharpshooter.

As for Marvin Bagley III, his situation is worse than that of Hield’s, as both he and his agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, seem to want out of Sacramento. After not moving him at the trade deadline last year or in the offseason, the Kings have seemed to ruin their relationship with their former No. 2 overall pick and in the final year of his rookie deal, the Kings are going to be looking to move Bagley.

This trade would cost them two key talents and two first-round draft picks, but they would be keeping De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton in the process, two players the Kings have been unwilling to include in trade packages for months.

Pairing Ben Simmons with De’Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton, Harrison Barnes and Richaun Holmes gives the Kings a strong core group that could not only thrive in pick-and-roll situations, but defensively as well. Under Alvin Gentry, the New Orleans Pelicans were always a strong defensive team, so we should expect the Kings to find ways to better themselves defensively with Gentry now calling the shots.

Adding Ben Simmons not only makes them a better defensive team, but gives them the All-Star talent that they have been missing over the years. In Sacramento, Ben Simmons could really thrive, which is why the Kings should be willing to make this trade.
