How This Trade Impacts Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons look to be a little further along than the Houston Rockets at the moment. They are more competitive and their issues are easily identifiable. They need help on the offensive side of the ball.
That’s not to say their defense is anything to write home about. They surrender the highest opponent shooting percentage in the NBA and second-highest 3-point shooting percentage. But their offense is that poor, the defense isn’t focused on as much as it should be.
This season’s Pistons are one of the least efficient offensive teams the NBA has ever seen. They are last in field goals made per game, 29th in shooting percentage, 30th in 3-point percentage, last in rebounding and 27th in assists.
Killian Hayes is the only rotation player that was making at least one 3-pointer per game shooting above the league average. The team needs someone who can put the ball in the basket to help take pressure off of Jerami Grant and help the young guys along. Christian Wood can be that player.

Wood has seen his production dip this season. Could that be a product of his environment, as the Rockets are not competitive on most nights? His scoring and shooting numbers are down, but he would still be an improvement over what the Pistons are trotting out there in the frontcourt each night.
With Kelly Olynyk injured, Detroit could certainly use some help in the frontcourt, especially since he was the only floor spacer they had. But, for a rebuilding team, this may be too steep of an asking price.

Isaiah Stewart was one of the team’s first-round picks in 2020 and surrendering two draft picks seems irresponsible for a team rebuilding such as the Pistons. They have their own predicament with Grant to figure out instead of adding another player to the mix that will be in the same boat contractually.
