This would be a blockbuster, landscape-changing deal between the LA Clippers and Brooklyn Nets. Kyrie Irving’s vaccination status would no longer be an issue, as he would be eligible to play right away for the Clippers.

Los Angeles has a mandate similar to what New York and San Francisco have, but Staples Center and Microsoft Theater are already subject to an existing order. That order says anyone entering must provide proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours. So, if Irving remains unvaccinated, he would just need to return negative tests to play in home games.

That is not the case in Brooklyn, as he is ineligible until he gets vaccinated. So, the Nets swap him out in this deal for players that can help them now.

Eric Bledsoe, Luke Kennard and Keon Johnson aren’t stars, but given the uncertainty surrounding Irving, that may be the best that the Nets can do in a return deal. They receive four draft picks in the deal, which is a nice haul for them.

The Nets are getting a second-round pick for the next three drafts before landing a future first-round pick. That first-round pick could be very valuable, as no one knows what the state of the Clippers will be in seven years.

How does this trade impact both teams? Let’s take a look at it from each of their perspectives, starting with the LA Clippers.
