The Golden State Warriors are rolling thus far in the 2021-22 NBA season. They have the best record in the league, going 15-2 thus far as they are dominating teams on both ends of the court.

Golden State is second in the NBA in offensive rating and first in defensive rating. They are among the best in the league in virtually every stat, as the only thing they aren’t elite in is offensive rebounding and turnovers.

Stephen Curry has received a lot of attention for how he has played thus far, as he is playing at an MVP level once again.

But, another player who should be receiving plenty of praise for his performance is Draymond Green.

Green has struggled the last two seasons, battling injuries and inconsistent performances on the court. That has not been the case this season, as Green is motivated to show that he is still one of the best defenders in the league.

“I’ve just kind of found that love again,” Green said following the 119-104 victory. “Kind of go through a lot of s— and the love kind of wanes a little bit. But I’ve just found that love and joy for the game and I’m just enjoying playing basketball and controlling what I can control. A point of emphasis for myself this year was simply to control what I could control. That means on the court, that means with the referees, that means off the floor — that’s just a step in my life and I think it shows on the basketball court.”

His children are one of the things that have helped him obtain this new perspective on the basketball court. Motivation from his family is a big reason he is performing at the level he is right now.

Draymond Green’s coaches and teammates are also noticing the changes he has made this season. Head coach Steve Kerr believes there isn’t a better defender in the world than Green and Otto Porter Jr. said that he is the anchor of their defense.

Playing for Team USA this summer, Green didn’t have much downtime. He was in playing shape throughout the summer taking part in the Olympics, which carried over to training camp and the NBA season.

Green says that he is feeling incredible and the changes he made in self-health are a big reason why.

“I take better care of my body today than I ever have,” Green said. “I don’t drink really anymore like I used to. I used to go after it a little bit. I’m 31 years old now so I try to do all the necessary things to make sure my body is in shape and ready to go. Lifting more than I ever have.”

Draymond Green sets the tone for the Golden State Warriors with his energy and effort and his teammates have followed suit. He looks engaged and is playing at a high level, helping return Golden State to the upper echelon of the NBA.
