Worst Destination No. 1: Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks were the team connected to Goran Dragic the most. It is one of the places he would have preferred to land when the Miami Heat moved on from him.

Dragic fits the bill of what the Mavericks were looking for all season. They wanted a secondary ball-handler to play alongside Luka Doncic and Dragic fit the bill. The two of them know each other well from international play, as both hail from Slovenia.

But, that is just about where the pros of Dragic landing in Dallas end. Yes, he can help take some of the pressure off of Doncic, but the Dallas Mavericks already have a player who can do that in Jalen Brunson.

Brunson is a superior player to Dragic at this point in their respective careers. The Mavericks should be looking to expand his role, not minimize it by bringing in a veteran such as Dragic to Dallas. Having to battle it out with Brunson, or any younger player for that matter likely isn’t on Dragic’s checklist when looking into future playing destinations.

With Trey Burke also in the mix for the Mavericks and Frank Ntilikina emerging, there would be a lot of competition for minutes in the Dallas backcourt. If Dragic is looking for an opportunity to play rotation minutes, Dallas is not the place for him.
