Philadelphia 76ers Receive: F Jerami Grant, G Cory Joseph, DET 2023 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected), LAC 2023 2nd Round Pick, LAC 2025 2nd Round Pick
Detroit Pistons Receive: G/F Ben Simmons, G Isaiah Joe
Los Angeles Clippers Receive: F Josh Jackson

Seeing as the Detroit Pistons are $11.4M under the tax line for this season and would be flirting with going over by acquiring Ben Simmons, they would need to find some ways to cut an extra $10M in salaries from their roster in addition to Jerami Grant’s $20M contract for this year.

Cory Joseph and Josh Jackson are definitely two prime candidates to be on the move, especially since they do not present much of a long-term future in Detroit. After being waived in the offseason to save money, the Pistons opted to re-sign Cory Joseph to a two-year, $10M deal that includes a player option for the 2022-23 season.

Joseph is ineligible to be traded until the December 15 deadline for recently signed players, but it would not be surprising to see the Detroit Pistons look to trade him since they have Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes running things in the backcourt.

As for Josh Jackson, his $5M contract is definitely one that playoff teams around the league could have interest in, especially a team like the Clippers, who could use another wing with Kawhi Leonard being out indefinitely.

The Clippers are above the luxury tax threshold and do not have a lot of ways to bring in new contracts, but they do have an $8.2M TPE they created when they traded Rajon Rondo to the Memphis Grizzlies this past offseason.

Jackson’s contract could be absorbed with no problem and the Clippers do have an open roster spot on their roster, so they would not have to waive or trade an additional player as well.

Basically, this trade would come down to the 76ers and if they deem that Grant, Joseph and some draft picks is enough value for Ben Simmons. According to Pompey, the Sixers are interested in Grant, another forward, a young player and a draft pick in exchange for Simmons.

This may wind up being too much value for the Detroit Pistons to give up as a rebuilding franchise and if the 76ers are not willing to budge, then this trade could fall apart.

However, this trade does work out financially for all three teams involved and could be enough value for the 76ers to settle on, especially closer to the trade deadline when they could begin struggling to prove that they are a real championship threat.
