Chicago Bulls: “Do the Bulls have enough talent on their bench to make a deep playoff run?”

Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso have made the Chicago Bulls a very real threat in the Eastern Conference this season and most importantly, they are extremely fun to watch!

This may very well be the best Bulls team we have seen since the Derrick Rose-led Bulls team during the 2010-11 season that finished 62-20 and went on to make the Eastern Conference Finals.

Now, they may not win 62 games this year, but Chicago is definitely well on their way back to the playoffs as long as they can remain healthy.

However, health is not the biggest thing standing between them and possibly making a trip to the NBA Finals for the first-time since they won their 6th title in 1998 with Michael Jordan.

Alex Caruso has been a revelation for this team off-the-bench and when the Bulls get Coby White back from his shoulder injury, their backcourt depth will be even stronger, but the rest of their depth is very questionable.

Over 76.8% of their total points scored this season has come from their starting rotation and not counting Alex Caruso, the Bulls bench has only accounted for just 16.0% of their total points on the season.

Rookie Ayo Dosunmu has scored the second-most points off-the-bench this season for Chicago behind Alex Caruso, which is why bench depth is the biggest question facing this Bulls team.

Currently ranking 28th in the league in bench points per game, the Chicago Bulls are definitely going to be a team that looks to add more talent ahead of the trade deadline this season in order to add more depth, but it is going to be tough for them to make a big move.

With not many tradeable draft picks and just $4.7M under the tax line, the Bulls’ options are limited in potential trades. Players on the trade block like Marvin Bagley III, Terrence Ross and Eric Gordon could all have a major impact on this team, but the Bulls just simply cannot afford any of them unless they move Derrick Jones Jr. and/or Coby White, two moves this team may not want to make.

It should be very interesting to see how Billy Donovan looks to sharpen up his rotations as the season progresses, but it will be even more interesting to see how the Bulls add more talent to this roster because they really need to do so.

Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic and DeMar DeRozan can only carry this team so far and not many teams in NBA history have been able to make the NBA Finals with just a handful of reliable players.

Depth is extremely important in today’s NBA, especially given all the talent every team has, which is why Chicago still has work to do.

Beginning the season 10-5 is extremely impressive for this group and they definitely are a real title threat, but addressing their bench must be a priority for them this season.
