Warriors Quietly Off To Best Start Since 2016-17 Season

The Golden State Warriors look to be in a class of their own thus far in the 2021-22 season. They have the best record in the NBA at 13-2 and are starting to look like the dynasty they were when they qualified for the NBA Finals five years in a row.

Golden State has missed the postseason for two straight years and looks well on their way to snapping that streak. They are dominating teams on both ends of the court similar to how they were doing it just a few years ago.

This year’s 13-2 start is the best one they have had since the 2016-17 season when they went 16-2 to begin the season. This season’s performance is more impressive than that team’s because this time around, they are doing it without Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.

Thrashing teams on a nightly basis when you have the MVP in Stephen Curry, one of the greatest scorers the world of basketball has ever seen in Durant and an elite two-way player in Thompson is expected. This year’s team, however, was not expected to play at this level.

The front office did a good job of upgrading the roster, bringing in some veterans to fill in some gaps. They have received excellent contributions from the supporting cast thus far as players are fitting into specific roles and playing them to the best of their abilities.

It also helps when Curry is once again playing at an MVP level. He had a few rocky shooting performances, at least by his standards, at the beginning of the season, but he has gotten it going recently.

Curry has knocked down at least nine 3-pointers in four out of the last six games he has played in. He is averaging 29.5 points per game, which is leading the league, to go along with 6.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists.

As long as Stephen Curry is playing at this level, the Warriors are going to be a difficult team to beat. But not only is he locked in, but Draymond Green has returned to his Defensive Player of the Year award-winning self as well.

Golden State is currently first in the league in defensive rating and second in offensive rating according to Basketball-Reference. What makes this stretch even more impressive is that the team could be better in a few weeks.

Once Thompson and James Wiseman return from injuries, the Golden State Warriors are going to be an even deeper and more difficult team to beat.
