Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson, and Lonnie Walker IV make up a strong-looking, young core in San Antonio right now, but this Spurs team has no identity. They are just a rebuilding team in the Western Conference that will win games here and there, but San Antonio does not look like a playoff team right now.
Missing the playoffs each of the last two seasons, the Spurs could be highly motivated to get back to their winning ways rather quickly, which is why Kyrie Irving could make a lot of sense for them right now.
He is a 7x All-Star that has won a championship before and could be the leader of this young, dynamic team in San Antonio. Next to Dejounte Murray, Irving would thrive as one of the better scoring guards in the league and he would not have to carry the burden of having to be the main facilitator as well given Murray’s “triple-double-like” play.
Whether or not he is a long-term star for them would remain a big question mark since he does not have much time left on his contract, but adding Irving to this team at the expense of White and Young makes the Spurs a real playoff team in the Western Conference and one that many teams will not want to try and deal with.

Who knows, maybe the Spurs could even look to trade Kyrie Irving in the offseason, that is assuming he opts into his contract for next season! In terms of value, the Spurs cannot get much better than Kyrie Irving on the trade market right now, especially for guys like White and Young.
This would definitely be a risky move for the franchise to make given that they are rebuilding and looking to add more young, versatile players to their roster, but overall, this could be too good of an opportunity for the Spurs to pass up on.
