Charlotte Hornets Receive: F Marvin Bagley III, POR 2025 2nd Round Pick (via SAC)
Sacramento Kings Receive: F Kelly Oubre Jr., BOS 2024 2nd Round Pick (via CHA)

Kelly Oubre Jr. was the Hornets big offseason free-agent signing and while he has been on-and-off this year for this team, he stepped up big for them when Terry Rozier was out to begin the year.

So far this season, Oubre Jr. is averaging 13.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and is shooting 43.2% from the floor, making him a key bench talent for Charlotte.

However, the 25-year-old wing does not necessarily seem like a player that the Hornets are going to want to keep long-term. Right now, he seems like a really solid second-unit player for them, but if they can get value for him immediately, then the Hornets will be interested in moving him.

The Sacramento Kings just need more overall talent on their roster right now if they are to make a playoff push and one of the biggest needs of their team is finding another reliable wing that they can pair with Harrison Barnes. Kelly Oubre Jr. could certainly be that guy and he would give Sacramento an extra boost on offense.

As for the Kings pertaining to Marvin Bagley III, this relationship seems to be dead. Bagley does not want to be in Sacramento any longer than he needs to be and after the team declined to give him a contract extension prior to the start of this season, his agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management seems very unhappy with how the Kings have treated Bagley.

Sources have told NBA Analysis Network that the Kings are wanting “first-round value” for Bagley in any trade right now, but as we get closer to the trade deadline, the asking price for the young forward could eventually decline.

When P.J. Washington returns for the Hornets, they will receive more steady play from their frontcourt, but adding Bagley to their rotation improves their depth a lot. He can consistently get his team 14 points and 7 rebounds every night either in or out of the starting rotation and Marvin Bagley can definitely aid the Hornets in terms of defending the paint.

The Hornets are currently allowing the 4th most points in the paint this season to their opponents, which is why adding another key big man could be essential for them to improve their defense. Bagley has never been known to be a high-level defender, but he is another big body that they can rely on if something were to happen to Washington or Plumlee.

Is this a trade we should expect to learn more about as the season goes on or should either the Charlotte Hornets or Sacramento Kings look elsewhere for a trade?
