How This Trade Impacts Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics were recently connected to Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers, with Jaylen Brown being mentioned as someone that could be heading to Philadelphia. Brad Stevens told Brown that he would not be traded to Philadelphia as the Celtics put that rumor to rest.
While they may not include Brown in a deal for Simmons, would they do it for Karl-Anthony Towns? That could be something that intrigues the Celtics enough to move on from Brown via trade.
Acquiring Towns would help the Celtics balance out their roster. Right now there are a lot of overlapping skills when it comes to Brown and Jayson Tatum, the team’s other building block on the wing.
Coming away with a player that complements Tatum, as well as Towns does, is a win for the Celtics, even if it means surrendering a player of Brown’s caliber. Brown is a great player in his own right, but swapping him out for Towns could help the team get to that next level.

Boston has plenty of players on the wing that can help soak up Brown’s minutes. Replacing Robert Williams III could prove to be tougher as the Celtics don’t have another big man on the roster that brings the same intensity defensively.
