Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?

At the end of the day, it is not a question of whether or not this is a good deal for the Kings, but if it is the best one coming their way. Bagley has been on the trade block for what seems like over a year now and the Kings may be starting to regret the fact that they have not moved him yet.

Plenty of teams have put together some intriguing trade packages featuring role players and draft picks for him, but the Kings did not pull the trigger on any deals at the trade deadline last year or this past offseason.

Sacramento has definitely lost value on Bagley as a result and now, they need to be willing to cut their losses. Letting Bagley’s contract expire in the offseason does this franchise no good and seeing as they invested a second overall pick in him just three years ago, they need to try and get as much value for him now in a trade before this year’s trade deadline.

Getting a first-round pick would be great, but adding Josh Jackson and Trey Lyles is not a terrible idea whatsoever. Both guys could immediately contribute to this team off-the-bench and each guy has played their role over the years quite well.

Since joining the Detroit Pistons ahead of the 2020-21 season, Josh Jackson has averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and has shot 42.1% from the floor in 74 total games.

As for Lyles, he is in his first season with Detroit, but in two seasons in San Antonio prior to this season, he has averaged 6.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and has shot 45.3% from the floor, 38% from three-point range.

Both Jackson and Lyles would be contributors off-the-bench for the Kings and they would assist this team in different areas. Where Jackson would be more of a secondary scorer on the wing, Lyles would be a solid two-way player at the power forward position that can stretch the floor in pick-and-roll situations with guys like Fox, Haliburton and Mitchell.

This is definitely not the best trade Sacramento could get around the league for Marvin Bagley III, but if other teams are not willing to sacrifice the assets they have for him, then this deal with the Detroit Pistons could definitely make a lot of sense.

Trading Bagley seems inevitable at this point and getting guys who can contribute now on affordable contracts is definitely valuable. With no long-term financial problems attached to Josh Jackson and Trey Lyles, this deal could work out in the Kings’ favor.
