Sacramento Kings Receive: F Josh Jackson, F Trey Lyles, CLE/GSW 2023 2nd Round Pick (Less Favorable of the Two, via DET)
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Marvin Bagley III

While the Sacramento Kings would want to receive “first-round value” for Bagley, they most likely are not going to get that at this point. Teams know that Marvin Bagley III does not want to be there anymore and as a result, the Kings lose value because of this.

Not to mention, Bagley has just been sitting on the end of the bench all season long and has played just 10 minutes in one game, so his trade value continues to lessen each day.

Assuming he would want to play for the Detroit Pistons, Bagley could be a really solid fit for them because of the fact that he is a lengthy, athletic big man with something to prove. Drafted second overall in 2018, he came into this league with high expectations, but Marvin Bagley III has yet to prove that he can be a sustainable asset because of injuries.

Missing almost half of the Kings’ games since entering the league, Marvin Bagley still has a lot to prove, but he has been efficient when he is on the floor. In 119 career games, Bagley has averaged 14.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 0.8 blocks and has shot 50% from the floor.

He definitely has the intangible traits to be a key talent in the frontcourt for a team like Detroit and they have the means to acquire him asset-wise.

Josh Jackson and Trey Lyles are two guys who do not present much of a future with the Detroit Pistons and they could be intriguing options for the Kings to add this season as they look to make the play-in tournament at the very least.

Jackson is in the final year of his contract, so the Kings would not be tied down to him long-term, and while Lyles was signed by Detroit in the offseason, he is eligible to be traded after December 15. Being a versatile power-forward himself, Trey Lyles could easily be a key bench talent for the Kings behind the likes of Harrison Barnes and Maruice Harkless.

Marvin Bagley III very clearly does not want to remain in Sacramento any longer, which is why he will be on the move this season.

Seeing as he is going to be a restricted free agent following the 2021-22 season, the Kings would be smart to just settle with any kind of value they can get for him now, especially if a team is willing to offer some draft compensation. While they are not sending Sacramento draft picks, the Detroit Pistons are definitely sending two impactful players to the Kings in this deal.
