Atlanta Hawks Receive: C Karl-Anthony Towns, F Taurean Prince, F Jake Layman
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F John Collins, F Danilo Gallinari, F Cam Reddish, ATL 2022 1st Round Pick (Unprotected)
When you look at the Minnesota Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns and his numbers obviously stick out, but so do those of Anthony Edwards. The second-year wing has been fantastic so far this season and is starting to overtake Towns for being the face of this franchise.
It is possible that both guys could end up being All-Stars this year, but being only 20-years-old and last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Edwards is the guy the Timberwolves will be building around for the foreseeable future. With this in mind, they need to surround him with as many versatile, athletic talents as possible to try and turn this team into a contender.
With Karl-Anthony Towns by his side, the Timberwolves seem like they are one piece away from being a real threat, which is why they may not want to trade the All-Star center whatsoever, but there is a ton of value that can come their way in this trade.
John Collins is working his way into a potential All-Star talent and at 24-years-old, he is the perfect athletic power-forward that this Minnesota Timberwolves team could pair with Anthony Edwards. Just think about these two running in transition and in pick-and-roll sets!

Replacing Towns with Collins is definitely a downgrade for Minnesota, but they would compensate for the loss of their All-Star center by adding Danilo Gallinari and Cam Reddish as well, two forwards who could make a big difference for this team’s scoring depth.
For his career, Gallinari has averaged 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and has shot 38.2% from three-point range, making him a key perimeter threat for this team to utilize. As for Cam Reddish, he has one more year left on his rookie contract and is starting to look like the offensive threat many thought he would be when drafted 10th overall in 2019.
Moving on from Gallinari’s contract is definitely something we could see the Atlanta Hawks express interest in doing this season, as could we see them look to trade Cam Reddish, but moving John Collins seems like a major stretch for this team.

John Collins received a five-year, $125M contract this offseason from Atlanta, locking him up as part of their core next to Trae Young and Clint Capela long-term. They have really liked the production he has given them and the progress he has made to turn into a two-way threat at the power forward position, so there is no way the Hawks would want to move him unless they were to get a talent like Karl-Anthony Towns.
There are a lot of moving pieces in this trade and a lot of big names/contracts on the move, but this trade may just be crazy enough to end up working for both teams.
