With Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. leading the way in Dallas, the Mavericks definitely look like a playoff team once again this NBA season, but they still seem to be missing something.

Doncic is a real MVP candidate and has been starting to look like one over the last few weeks, but is this team a real contender in the Western Conference?

Right now, the answer has to be no, especially when you compare them to teams like the Warriors, Lakers, Jazz and even the Nuggets. All four of those teams in the Western Conference have star talents and depth, but this does not seem to be the case with the Mavericks.

They have Doncic as their All-Star talent, but Kristaps Porzingis has disappeared in big games through his time in Dallas and Tim Hardaway Jr. is not that “second, elite-level” player the Mavericks are looking for.

Adding a second shot-creator to this team would be tremendous and Dallas could absolutely look to do so ahead of the trade deadline this season, but they could also have their eyes on another big man.

With Kristaps Porzingis, Dwight Powell, Willie Cauley-Stein, Boban Marjanovic, and Moses Brown all in Dallas’ frontcourt, the Dallas Mavericks do not necessarily need to look for another big man, but Mitchell Robinson could definitely help them out immediately.

Dwight Powell is a player the Mavericks will be open to trading ahead of the deadline this year, which could open the door for a defensive-minded center like Mitchell Robinson for this team. With the Knicks having Taj Gibson and Nerlens Noel under contract through next season, as well as Obi Toppin beginning to play well, Robinson has suddenly become expendable to this team, especially since he is in the final year of his contract.

The Knicks have been paying Mitchell Robinson well under his value over the last few seasons due to his rookie contract and now in the final year of this deal, New York could look to trade him if they do not want to invest a lot of money into him long-term.

Going out and moving Robinson for a talent or two that can help the New York Knicks in their playoff push this season would make a lot of sense, so let’s take a look at what the Dallas Mavericks could offer the Knicks in a trade centered around Mitchell Robinson.
