The Brooklyn Nets are going to look a lot different at the start of the NBA season than they anticipated they would. There is no timetable for how long the changes they will have to make at the point guard position are going to last, as they do not know if, or when, Kyrie Irving will be returning to the team.

Brooklyn made the difficult decision to hold Irving out for as long as he remains only a part-time player. Irving is unvaccinated, which means he cannot participate in games at Barclays Center or Madison Square Garden.

Staring at the possibility of not having their starting point guard for 43 games in the regular season and countless more in the postseason, the Nets decided it would be best if Irving didn’t play at all. So, until he is eligible to become a full-time player, Irving will not be participating with the Nets. He will be paid for the road games he is held out of, but will be forfeiting nearly $15 million for the games he is ineligible for.

The Nets have managed to hit their stride without Irving in the fold — winning eight of their previous 10 games. Brooklyn could further solidify themselves by moving Irving by complementary talents perhaps.

Brooklyn also took a $186 million contract extension off the table, so Irving’s decision to remain unvaccinated stands to cost him more than $200 million. With his status with the Brooklyn Nets now in question, the team is open to trade offers for him. Could the Oklahoma City Thunder be a possible landing spot?

Let’s take a look at this hypothetical offer that sends Kyrie Irving to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
