Things have not gone well at the start of the 2021-22 season for the Detroit Pistons. They are currently 3-9 and have set the modern NBA’s offensive attack back decades.

Detroit is putting together one of the worst shooting seasons that the league has ever seen. As a team, the Pistons are shooting 40.7 percent from the field and making only 35.4 shots per game, both ranking last in the NBA.

They are also last in 3-point shooting percentage with an abysmal 29.7 percent. Kelly Olynyk, Jerami Grant, and Killian Hayes are the only players on the team shooting at least 34 percent from the 3-point line.

That has led to them averaging the fewest points per game in the NBA with 97.6 and they are 29th in offensive rating. Exacerbating their issues is that they are in last place in opponent’s field goal percentage, opponent’s 3-point shooting percentage, defensive and total rebounding.

However, could some changes be coming on the horizon? According to Marc Stein, the Pistons are one team to keep an eye on when it comes to Sacramento Kings big man, Marvin Bagley III.

From The Stein Line, a paid prescription website, Stein shared that while he was in Detroit, he was advised to put the Pistons down as a team to keep an eye on in the Bagley trade sweepstakes.

A trade isn’t considered likely to occur before December 15th, when some restrictions are lifted on players who signed new contracts or were traded during the offseason, and the player pool to acquire in trade is expanded.

Stein shared that the Pistons have been monitoring Bagley before he and the Sacramento Kings had a fallout and he was removed from the rotation entirely. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft is no longer in the organization’s long-term plans and would welcome a trade.

Bagley has failed to live up to expectations of a No. 2 overall pick, but he would certainly help the Detroit Pistons’ offensive problem. He has appeared in only one game this season, but if there is anything he has showcased during his tenure thus far in the NBA, it is that he can score the ball and rebound it well, too.

Detroit would welcome that with open arms, as things have been a struggle for them in the early going. Adding a player to the mix that has made half of his shots in his career and averages 14.1 points could help them start turning things around on that end of the court.
