Thaddeus Young – San Antonio Spurs

Top Trade Destination: Boston Celtics

Now in his 15th season in the NBA, Thaddeus Young has turned himself into a very productive veteran talent at the power forward position that can do a little bit of everything to help his team win games.

Last year in Chicago, he averaged 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 55.9% from the floor, and with Jakob Poeltl currently out for the Spurs, Thaddeus Young has stepped up into a bigger role for this team.

Over the course of his last five games, Young is averaging 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and is shooting 69.7% from the floor.

The 33-year-old vet can definitely still be an impactful role player for a playoff hopeful/contending team in this league, which is why playoff-contending teams could show interest in him.

The Spurs are rebuilding and with Young being in the final year of his contract, they are going to be looking to move him ahead of the trade deadline.

In fact, San Antonio has already approached several teams around the league about a potential trade involving the veteran forward, but they have not received the value in return that they would have liked.

A team like the Boston Celtics makes the most sense fit-wise for Thad Young, especially since they could use another impactful player in their frontcourt. Next to Al Horford and Robert Williams III, Young could be a key bench talent for this team that also takes a lot of pressure off of Jayson Tatum to do everything for this team.

Thaddeus Young has proven to be a contributor on both ends of the floor and averaging a career-high 4.3 assists per game last season, he is more than capable of being a facilitator in the low-post or at the top of the arc on the perimeter.

Having a $17M TPE from sending Evan Fournier to the Knicks this offseason in a sign-and-trade deal, the Celtics definitely have a means to acquire Thaddeus Young pain-free and if they are willing to offer a first-round pick to San Antonio, the Spurs should be more than willing to trade the veteran big man.
