Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
Trading Eric Gordon and Danuel House Jr. definitely are two moves that make sense for the Houston Rockets this season and adding the likes of Marvin Bagley III, Jahmi’us Ramsey and a 2022 second-round pick brings a lot of future value to this organization.
As mentioned before, Bagley is in the final year of his rookie deal and as a result, the Rockets would hold all the leverage in contract negotiations with him after this year. If he plays well with this young core in Houston, then the Rockets would be able to offer him a fair contract extension in the offseason since he is set to be a restricted free agent.
If things do not work out, then they get a young, athletic guard in Jahmi’us Ramsey, a 2022 2nd Round Pick and plenty of cap space to play around with over the next several years. Eric Gordon’s contract is the main reason why he is on the trade block, as $58.7M is just too much for the Houston Rockets to be tied down to over the next few years.
The Rockets are rebuilding right now and they not only need young, athletic and versatile talents like that of Bagley and Ramsey, but they need to have flexibility through cap space in order to keep all of their young guys together. Not to mention, they need to be able to add talent as they please around their core group of guys!

This trade gives the Houston Rockets two young players to play around with, plus flexibility with cap space, which is why they would be smart to pursue this trade if it is available to them.
Marvin Bagley III paired with Christian Wood and Daniel Theis in the frontcourt could work out better than Houston would first imagine and next to athletic guards like Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr., the Houston Rockets could suddenly become a tough team to stop/guard both in transition and in pick-and-roll sets offensively.
