Missing the playoffs for back-to-back NBA seasons now, the San Antonio Spurs are looking to change their recent misfortunes, but they are also a team that is rebuilding this NBA season. Beginning the year 4-7, the Spurs are not terrible, but they are a team that will definitely be looking to make some moves, including figuring out the future of Thaddeus Young.

Sending DeMar DeRozan to the Bulls in an offseason sign-and-trade, the Spurs were able to salvage some value from giving up their All-Star. Along with a 2025 first-round pick and two second-round picks, San Antonio also acquired Al-Farouq Aminu (who was waived) and Thaddeus Young from the Bulls.

Now in his 15th season in the NBA, Young has turned himself into a very proactive veteran talent at the power forward position that can do a little bit of everything. Last year in Chicago, he averaged 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 55.9% from the floor, and with Jakob Poeltl currently out for the Spurs, Thaddeus Young has stepped up into a bigger role for this team.

Over the course of his last five games, Young is averaging 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and is shooting 69.7% from the floor. The 33-year-old vet can definitely still be an impactful role player for a playoff hopeful/contending team in this league, which is why the Minnesota Timberwolves could show interest in him.

Minnesota has looked really good at times this year with their “Big 3” of Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell, but this team is going to need to add a little bit more talent if they are to be a real playoff team in the Western Conference this year.

Depth has always been a problem for the T-Wolves and they really need to address this problem in their frontcourt. Durability is definitely a problem with Towns and seeing as he has missed team each of the last three seasons, Minnesota needs to have some key talents that they can rely on to get the job done either in the second unit or in the event that Towns has to miss time this season.

Naz Reid, Jarred Vanderbilt and Jaden McDaniels are all young talents still growing on this team, so Thaddeus Young could not only join this crew and become a key veteran mentor like Patrick Beverley has, but he can also give them the depth they desperately need behind KAT.

The Spurs remain interested in pursuing a trade before the trade deadline involving Thaddeus Young, but the Minnesota Timberwolves are a little tight on cap space, so what can they do in order to acquire the veteran big man from San Antonio?

Let’s take a look at a three-team trade between the Spurs, Timberwolves, and Kings that sends Thaddeus Young to Minnesota and some other young talents to new teams.
