While we are seemingly not any closer to NBA All-Star Ben Simmons returning to the Philadelphia 76ers and suiting up, the trade rumors involving him are heating up once again. There have been numerous teams, such as the Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Cleveland Cavaliers attached to Simmons thus far.

Now, there is seemingly a new team that has entered the fray; the Boston Celtics. According to The Athletic, a prescription-based website, the Celtics have had some discussions with the 76ers about a potential trade.

According to the sources, All-Star Jayen Brown would be involved in the deal as part of the package heading to Philadelphia. This is a deal that would change the landscape of each franchise, swapping out 25-year old players with star potential.

There has been plenty of discussions about where Simmons could go and if it would be a team on his preferred list. He would like to play for one of the California teams and wouldn’t be thrilled playing in Portland or Toronto.

So, what are his feelings about Boston? According to the Boston Globe, a league source told them that he would have an interest in going to Boston.

Brad Stevens, in his first year in the Boston Celtics front office, has shown that he is willing to make a deal. Swapping out Brown for Simmons is one that would define his tenure with the organization as general manager.

A lot would change for rookie head Ime Udoaka with Simmons on board. The team’s offensive schemes would have to change, as Simmons isn’t the scorer that Brown is. His presence would likely push Marcus Smart into a shooting guard role again, taking the ball out of his hands even more. It is something he has been vocal about already this season.

For the Philadelphia 76ers, they would accomplish their goal of landing an impact player in return for Simmons. They would be thrilled to add Brown to the mix even if he isn’t a point guard. He would help keep their offense humming at the efficiency it is while bringing that defensive impact the team is currently missing sans Simmons.
