Would this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
The benefit for the Detroit Pistons is simple in this deal if Kyrie Irving is able to stay on the floor. That is the big question mark but for the sake of the argument, we will assume that Irving is able to play on a consistent basis. This way, it would be easy to find positive things to say about this deal.
First, the Pistons would keep their young core together while sending away a veteran who might not be their long-term. Irving would be able to act as a mentor on the floor for the next generation of guards in Detroit.
This would benefit the likes of Cade Cunningham over his first years in the league. This might be the time to make a deal for Irving as there is some leverage for teams looking to trade with the Nets.
The Pistons are quickly rebuilding in the Eastern Conference and this will help them improve immediately.

This is not to say that the Pistons would turn into championship contenders after this deal but they could sneak into the postseason near the bottom of the conference. Detroit has a clear plan and the addition of Kyrie Irving would speed up the process.
