Back in 2018, the Oklahoma City Thunder traded their 2022 first-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks in a trade that allowed them to acquire Dennis Schroder.
The Thunder do not currently own their first-round pick in this year’s draft, but it is Lottery-Protected and Oklahoma City is most definitely going to finish with the worst record in the Western Conference this season.
Having an average age of under 23-years-old, the Thunder are the youngest team in the NBA right now. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is their young leader in the backcourt and he is surrounded by some promising-looking talents. Darius Bazley, Luguentz Dort, Aleksej Pokusevski, Josh Giddey, and others make up a very intriguing looking and dynamic group of young players all look to take a big step this season.
With the second-worst point differential, this season (-13.2) expectations for the Thunder are not high, but much like the Detroit Pistons, they are focusing on the development of their youthful core. Oh, and GM Sam Presti seems to have a thing for draft picks, as Oklahoma City has a total of 35 of them through the 2028 NBA Draft.

With enough draft picks to create two new expansion teams over the next several years, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a lot of options on how to build their team of the future, which is why it is a great time to be a fan of theirs!
Sure, you may have to sit back and watch your team lose a lot over the next two years, but by 2023, this Thunder team is going to be a force in the Western Conference.
Ending up with the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft along with a handful of other picks next offseason is the best thing that could happen to one of the most promising-looking young teams in the NBA.
