Add another wing defender to the roster
With LeBron James now out, the Los Angeles Lakers are thin in terms of talent on the wing, especially since Talen Horton-Tucker, Wayne Ellington, and Trevor Ariza are out and have yet to make their season debuts. Kendrick Nunn is also another player that has yet to play for the Lakers this season due to injuries, but he is in their backcourt.
Having depth on their roster is going to be important this year, especially since the Lakers are the oldest team in the league and have some durability issues. Taking this opportunity right now to add another wing player to their roster is something Los Angeles should strongly consider doing, especially since James Ennis III is still a free agent.
In what was a weaker free-agent class than usual this offseason, it was expected that James Ennis would wind up being one of the prime wing defenders that teams would target closer to training camps, but no team in the league signed the former Magic forward and now, he is sitting on his couch waiting for a new opportunity to come his way!
Priding themselves on defense over the years, the Los Angeles Lakers would be very smart to sign James Ennis right now, even if they plan to only utilize him while guys on their roster are injured. You can never have too much depth on your roster, especially out on the wing, which is why signing Ennis is the best move the Lakers can make right now.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Damian Lillard Pondered Joining Lakers During Offseason
Last season with the Magic, James Ennis III averaged 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 0.8 steals and shot 43.3% from three-point range. Having seven years of NBA experience and being 31-years-old, he fits the mold of being a veteran player in this league and Ennis would be more than capable of playing his role on this team.
All season long, the Lakers are going to have players in and out of their lineups due to rest and injuries, which is why a guy like Ennis is worth a minimum contract in Los Angeles.
