The Houston Rockets are a rebuilding NBA franchise right now, but with young talents in Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and others, this team is heading in the right direction early on in their rebuild. Christian Wood is another player that has stuck out on this roster and his story is amazing.

After going undrafted in 2015 after projected to be a late first-round pick, Wood never gave up on his goals of making it to the NBA and he bounced around the league his first couple of years in the NBA. Christian Wood was never able to carve out a solidified role with any of the four teams he played for early on in his career and he was forced to prove himself time and time again in the G-League.

Having a strong summer league showing with the Milwaukee Bucks a few years ago and starting to come into his own a little bit, Wood was given a chance to play with the Pistons during the 2019-20 season and made the most of his opportunities. Being a free agent that summer, the Rockets took a chance on the 6’10” big man and he became one of the breakout players of last season.

In 41 games with the Rockets last year, Christian Wood averaged 21.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and shot 51.4% from the floor, 37.4% from three-point range. Now in his second season with the Rockets, Wood is picking up right where he left off last season and is looking to prove that he can be an All-Star talent and the leader of this young Houston franchise.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Could Houston Rockets Make “Surprising” Christian Wood Trade?

Given his value to this team and the fact that he is their best player right now, it seems crazy to think that the Houston Rockets would look to trade Christian Wood.

However, his trade value is at an all-time high right now and with Wood being under contract for just one more season after this year, it may be wise for the Rockets to feel out what they could potentially get for him.

Following the 2022-23 season next year, Wood is going to be up for a massive pay raise, something the Rockets may not want to give him necessarily since he will be 27-years-old then, about to turn 28, and since they will have a bunch of other young players to pay.

If the Rockets make Wood available in trade talks this season, then the Portland Trail Blazers should definitely be a team interested in him. Portland has really struggled to begin the year and with the future of Damian Lillard uncertain, they need to do everything they can to prove that they are a team that can win right now.
