3 Teams Who Should Take Gamble On Kyrie Irving Trade

Kyrie Irving

We are now more than a week into the 2021-22 NBA season and we haven’t seen any progress made when it comes to Kyrie Irving returning to the court to play with the Brooklyn Nets. As long as he remains without the COVID-19 vaccine, he will remain away from the team.

While the organization would like for him to return and play, it doesn’t sound as if he is any closer to getting the vaccine now than before the season. He is within his rights to remain unvaccinated, but there are repercussions to that decision.

He is forfeiting millions of dollars in salary for being ineligible to play in games at the Barclays Center or Madison Square Garden. He will be paid for the away games, as the Brooklyn Nets decided to hold him out as they do not want any part-time players on the court.

As a result, his future with the organization is muddied. Brooklyn took a $186 million max extension off the table before the season began. Irving has a player option for the 2022-23 season as well that he could decline and become a free agent.
