This Pelicans-Spurs Trade Is Centered Around Thaddeus Young

It is that point in the NBA calendar when some teams get off to a slow start and begin to ponder whether making a trade could spark greater results. With the New Orleans Pelicans getting off to an 0-3 start and needing to stay afloat while Zion Williamson remains sidelined, they are a prime candidate.

Young was a part of the sign-and-trade deal that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls. It was obvious that DeRozan was not coming back because the Spurs have shown an interest in getting younger, which is what they would be doing in a deal such as this one.

Young scored 12.1 points per game in 68 games for the Bulls last season. He still carries some value but not for a team like San Antonio going through a bit of a transition. They are a franchise looking to get back to the postseason and will do so on the backs of young players.

The New Orleans Pelicans are an organization that is a bit behind San Antonio but have the same basic idea. New Orleans needs to continue to put the right pieces around Zion Williamson. There have been rumors that he is unhappy with the current situation with the Pelicans and this is bad news.

The front office knows that they need to keep Williamson happy and that is why they attempted to improve the point guard position. Devonte’ Graham was acquired in a sign-and-trade deal with the Charlotte Hornets. Here, the Pelicans could make another move to help the rotation moving forward.

Thaddeus Young is not the type of piece that will help the New Orleans Pelicans win a championship but he will bring an experienced voice on and off the floor. Let’s take a closer look and see how this trade could get done before the NBA trade deadline.
