One of the players that drew a lot of attention during the NBA offseason is Atlanta Hawks wing player Cam Reddish.

Reddish was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Duke, but he has yet to live up to expectations with the Hawks.

Reddish has been unable to stay healthy thus far in his career, appearing in only 84 regular season games coming into the 2021-22 season. Even when he has been able to get on the court, the results haven’t been great.

He has tantalizing potential but hasn’t been able to put it together. We saw flashes of it and his performance in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks was a prime example of what he is capable of.

That performance against the Bucks could have very well saved him from being traded this offseason. The Hawks did make him available, but no deal was made. As one executive shared, Reddish is believed to be the most talented player on the Hawks roster even if he doesn’t showcase it consistently.

“They always say he’s the most talented player on their roster, it’s just that he doesn’t always put it together,” one NBA executive told HoopsHype. “I’m not sure if he ever will. I like him. I think if he gets in the right situation, he could turn out to be a starting-level player because he can defend multiple positions and he can create any shot he wants. It’s just a matter of his mental approach and getting to the right situation where they know how to get the most out of him.”

Is it the right situation, with the Atlanta Hawks? Reddish has been great the first two games of this season, coming off the bench and averaging 19.5 points per game. He may have found the role that fits him best right now with Atlanta.

Reddish is their go-to player on offense on the second unit right now. But, what makes him such a high upside player is the two-way potential that he possesses.

“He fits the mold that teams have a need for right now,” another NBA executive told HoopsHype. “He’s a 6-foot-8 athletic and versatile player that can make shots. He can create with the ball. He’s got the skillset tools and size. Right now, he doesn’t have a good sample size of being consistent. It’s just been flashes. He’s definitely somebody I’d be going after.”

What could the price be to acquire Reddish? One executive said that he believes a team would be willing to part with a lottery-protected first-round pick to acquire him.

Given how high of a ceiling he has, there are likely plenty of teams that would be willing to trade away a lottery-protected pick for the chance at adding Reddish to their team.
