Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?

Luka Doncic cannot carry this team in the playoffs alone and while he has Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., and some other solid contributors around him, this team is still a long way away from being a real championship contender.

Adding Goran Dragic does not set them “over-the-edge” in terms of talent, but it would definitely be a big move to help them come playoff time.

Throughout his entire career, Dragic has always been a reliable ball-handler and he is a very smart facilitator, as his career assist to turnover ratio is 2.12:1. He has proven to be a primary ball-handler everywhere he has been and with Doncic having to do everything for this Mavericks’ team, Goran Dragic could really take a lot of pressure off of him.

As for Kenrich Williams, he shot 44.4% from three-point range last season and has proven to be a guy that can move around at many different positions given his shooting abilities and the fact that he can defend multiple positions.

Both Dragic and Williams are two key additions for this Mavericks team that bring a lot more value than imagined.

Being on a minimum-like contract, the Mavericks can afford Williams and they could absorb him using part of their $10.8M TPE they have from trading Josh Richardson to the Boston Celtics early on this past offseason.

Dallas is going to need to make some moves at some point to bring in more talent and seeing as he has experience not only as an All-Star, but in the NBA Finals as well, Goran Dragic is definitely the guy that should be at the top of the Mavericks’ “wants” list this season.
