Opening night was not the best night for Stephen Curry. He recorded the eighth triple-double of his NBA career, but he shot only 5-of-21 from the field. His teammates were able to pick him up, as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 121-114.

That spelled bad news for the Warriors’ next opponent, the LA Clippers. Everyone knew Curry would be motivated to bounce back with a strong performance. And bounce back he did.

Curry exploded for 25 points in the first quarter of the game. He made every shot that he took, going 9-for-9 from the field and connecting on all five of his 3-point attempts. His barrage helped get the Warriors a 44-27 lead.

Not to be outdone, Paul George had a monster second quarter himself, not only erasing the Golden State Warriors’ lead but helping the Clippers take a one-point lead at halftime.

Golden State would eventually prevail, winning the back and forth contest 115-113. Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr was in awe of the performance.

“Steph Curry was just Steph Curry,” Kerr said. “There’s never been anybody like him. Those last two 3s were ridiculous.”

The last two 3-pointers that Kerr is referencing are what helped propel the Warriors to a win. Both of them got the Warriors the lead back after Clipper baskets in a game that went right down to the wire. Without those makes, Golden State likely loses the game.

His teammate, Draymond Green, said this performance was something they saw coming as Curry was on fire warming up earlier in the day.

“He didn’t miss a shot today in shootaround,” Warriors forward Green said. “So we kind of knew it was coming. But he could have missed every shot in shootaround, and I still would have known it was coming. He’s an incredible player.”

After his poor performance in the season opener, you knew that Curry was going to come out firing in Game 2. He put on a show for the fans in the Warriors’ home opener, finishing the game with 45 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block.

His ability to turn the page on his season-opening performance is one of the things that makes him great. He puts the work in and knows it will pay off.

“It’s earned confidence from the work you put in,” Curry said. “It’s always a message of next shot’s going in or the next game’s going to be a good game because I try not to dwell on it too much. Even laughing at that question — I don’t even know what Staples does to me when I’m shooting the basketball. Who cares, move on to the next one. You play enough games, you figure out the ability to turn the page really quickly.”

Stephen Curry relentlessly works on his craft and it shows when he is on the court. The Golden State Warriors are certainly thankful to have him on their side and not have to scheme against him every night.
