3. Julius Randle vs. Jaylen Brown
There was a lot of energy in Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night for the New York Knicks home opener against the Boston Celtics. The Garden was rocking when the Knicks weren’t a good team, but now that they have some expectations, the place is even wilder.
The fans in attendance were treated to an excellent game. The Knicks won the game 138-134 in double overtime as both teams left it all out on the court. What made the victory even better for the Knicks was the fact that Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier, their new backcourt, both played for the Celtics last season.
Walker had a rocky debut in his homecoming and Fournier had a career-high-tying 32 points. But, it was Jaylen Brown and Julius Randle that stole the show.
Brown was on fire right from the opening tip. He ended up scoring a career-high 46 points, going 16-of-30 from the field, knocking down eight-of-14 from the 3-point line and 6-of-8 from the foul line. He hit a bomb near the end of regulation to help push the game into overtime.

Not to be outdone, Randle showed last season was not a fluke. He scored a team-high 35 points with eight rebounds and nine assists. He did have a ghastly seven turnovers but stepped up when Tom Thibodeau went smaller, providing some rim protection with three blocks.
It should also be noted the effort that RJ Barrett put in defensively. He did an excellent job against Jayson Tatum and as the primary defender no matter who was defending.
