How This Team Impacts Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers need to find a new home for Ben Simmons. The organization may be holding out hope that he will come back and fit in once again, but given how he handled himself at practice, that seems like a long shot.
So, before his trade value worsens, they need to find a deal. Given the current landscape in terms of his market, this deal with the Portland Trail Blazers may net them the best player available.
While Damian Lillard is who the 76ers want from the Trail Blazers, CJ McCollum is quite a consolation prize. He is one of the best shooting guards in the NBA despite never earning an All-Star appearance.
McCollum averaged a career-high 23.1 points per game last season and has been extremely consistent. He is averaging 21.8 points and 3.8 assists per game since becoming a full-time starter and his production doesn’t dip in the postseason.

He has averaged 22.8 points per game in the playoffs during the same stretch and is a proven multi-level scorer. McCollum doesn’t get as many headlines as Lillard, but he is a great player.
Nazir Little provides Philadelphia with a high-upside big man with two years remaining on his rookie deal. He could be included in a trade package to land another star player should Philadelphia look to go that route. The future first-round pick can be used in the same capacity.
While this might fall short of the megadeal Daryl Morey wants, players in the range of CJ McCollum might be the best that they will receive in return for Simmons at this point.
