How This Trade Impacts Memphis Grizzlies

Right now, this isn’t a trade that would interest the Memphis Grizzlies at all. Both Talen Horton-Tucker and Trevor Ariza are currently recovering from surgeries that will keep them sidelined for a few weeks.

But, should both of them be healthy, this is a deal that might intrigue Memphis. During the offseason, it was reported that they could part ways with him for the right price. This may qualify as the right price.

Acquiring a soon-to-be 21-year old would fit the timeline that Memphis seems to be working on. They operated this season as a team with an eye toward the future. It might frustrate some fans that plan of attack after they qualified for the postseason last year, but they are still a few years away from contending.

Horton-Tucker has immense potential. He has versatility on the defensive side of the ball given his size and length. Offensively, he has shown glimpses of becoming a good playmaker with some scoring instincts. His per-36 minute stats provide a good picture of the potential that he has.

Ariza is included to help match salary. It is hard to imagine he would be thrilled about ending up with Memphis as he is looking to compete for a title. The Grizzlies could flip him for another asset.

The two second-round picks are nice additions. They give Memphis some more assets to maneuver up and down the draft board for specific prospects or to include in trades as sweeteners to a deal.
