How This Trade Impacts Cleveland
The Cleveland Cavaliers seem to be all over the place when it comes to their stance on Collin Sexton. They actively looked to trade him this offseason, but general manager Koby Altman also said that they want him there long-term.
If the Cavaliers decide they would rather move on from him, this deal with the San Antonio Spurs would make a lot of sense.
Swapping Dejounte Murray into the starting lineup in place of Sexton would help balance out the Cavaliers backcourt. Murray and Darius Garland would play off of each other well, as their strengths and weaknesses are a good match.
Murray would bring some much-needed size to the backcourt, standing 6’4” with the length to defend shooting guards. He was named to an All-Defensive team in his second season in the league, so the potential is there for Murray to help Cleveland turn things around defensively.

On offense, Murray has to continue developing his 3-point shot. It has been inconsistent thus far in his career. But, his slashing and midrange game would certainly benefit the team’s offense. Garland is a good enough playmaker to find him cutting to the basket, while Murray returns the favor when Garland is looking to score from the perimeter.
The Cavaliers would also be getting a first-round pick in return. That would give them more ammunition to swing a trade for established talent to help take this team out of the rebuilding stage and start winning some more games.
