The Los Angeles Lakers looked rough during the NBA preseason, to say the least. Now, with the regular season almost here, no one truly knows what to expect from this group of players. Even NBA legends like Ray Allen are chipping in with their thoughts on the way the current roster has been constructed.

Allen, an NBA champion and long-time superstar, revealed his thoughts in a recent quote shared by Mackenzie Salmon of USA Today.

“When you look at their roster, in a playoff situation, how well they mesh together, the five [starters] of them, and what their bench looks like. Down the stretch, bench points are huge. When you see guys that can come in and spell minutes for the starters. At some point during the year, someone else that is not their best three players are gonna have to win a game for them. That’s what it takes for championship teams to win.”

At this point in time, the Lakers are relying heavily on their “Big Three” of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook. All three of those guys are capable of putting up huge individual performances. However, the big concern is whether or not they will all be able to co-exist to win a championship.

Los Angeles also put quite a few talented veteran role players around the three superstars. Among those role players are DeAndre Jordan, Wayne Ellington, Malik Monk, Kendrick Nunn, Kent Bazemore, Rajon Rondo, and many more. This team has the star power to be great, but they need to put everything together.

Allen does make a very intriguing point in his quote. While the superstars will be the driving force of the team, they will need a player or two to win them games come postseason time. All of the top-tier contenders are loaded with star power as well.

Do the Lakers have those players ready to take pressure off of the “Big Three” consisting of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook? Are they ready to compete with the way the roster is constructed, or will they have to make other moves during the season?

Expect to see the Los Angeles Lakers continue being the most talked about team in the NBA in the coming weeks. Ray Allen’s thoughts on the team are intriguing, to say the least, and L.A. will need to figure some things out quickly to begin the year.
