How This Trade Impacts Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are looking to make a trade to upgrade their roster. However, this trade isn’t one that they should actively be looking to make.
The Kings just re-signed Richaun Holmes in free agency to a four-year deal worth just over $46.5 million. Acquiring another center in Myles Turner wouldn’t make much sense for a team that is already struggling with roster balance.
Turner would help the Kings turn around their defense in a great way. He is arguably the best rim protector in the NBA, averaging 3.4 blocks per game last season. But, it is highly unlikely that he and Holmes could share the court. Committing nearly $28 million to two centers is not a good way to do business, especially with the style of play that is becoming popular in the NBA now.
The center position isn’t an immediate need for the Kings with Holmes and Tristan Thompson. The team also has Alex Len, Damian Jones, and Chimezie Metu they can turn to in a pinch. Where they need help is on the wing.

Jeremy Lamb can provide some depth and production there. He has the size to be serviceable and if he can carry over the 3-point shooting production he had last season, the Kings are upgrading their wing depth.
But, Lamb alone isn’t worth a first-round pick swap and Hield. Hield is one of the better trade chips that the Kings have and if he is traded, they should be looking to balance out their roster more, not create another logjam.
