Being one of the best scorers in the league, Bradley Beal’s name popped up a lot in NBA trade rumors this offseason, yet the Washington Wizards stood by their statements that they want to keep their superstar long-term.

Beal also seems to want to stay long-term, as he did not request a trade and has remained committed to helping his team in their rebuilding process.

However, staying in Washington long-term may not be Bradley Beal’s intention. While he does have another year on his contract after this season, this extra year on Beal’s contract is a $37M player option that he could wind up declining. Not to mention, the 3x All-Star is up for a massive contract extension next offseason.

Due to the fact that he made the All-NBA team this year, Bradley Beal is eligible for a $235M max contract extension from Washington next offseason, hence why he may want to hang around a little bit longer. That is a lot of money for someone to pass up, but at the same time, joining the LA Clippers could be too good of an opportunity for him to pass up as well.

By adding Beal to this team, the Clippers have Paul George, Bradley Beal, and Kawhi Leonard at full strength, which would be a juggernaut that other teams in the league could not stop. Taking their average scoring outputs from last season alone, these three guys would combine to average nearly 80 points per game.

This would make the Clippers’ new “Big 3” just as good as other “Big 3s” around the league in terms of offensive productivity. However, the Clippers would almost definitely have to get other teams involved in order to get Washington to let go of their All-Star.

Keon Johnson and Jason Preston may be young, valuable players for a rebuilding team like the Washington Wizards, but the rest of the assets Los Angeles would be trading away are definitely questionable.

After barely making the playoffs last year, Washington may have taken a step back this offseason and as a result, they could wind up being one of the worst teams in the league near the trade deadline once again.

If this is the case, Bradley Beal could very well request a trade from the Wizards and if this happens, the LA Clippers will be one of many teams trying to acquire the All-Star shooting guard.
