The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off the biggest trade of the NBA offseason when they acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards. It was not a cheap deal for the Lakers to make, as they surrendered three rotation players and draft capital to get it done.
Rob Pelinka traded Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft to land Westbrook.
It was a deal that came virtually out of nowhere, as the Lakers were engaged in trade talks with the Sacramento Kings centered around Buddy Hield.
Westbrook made it known to the Wizards’ ownership that he would like a trade to the Lakers if it was possible. If not, he was more than happy to be back with the Wizards. The rest, as they say, is history, as Westbrook has returned home.
